I bought this book when it first came out in paperback..let's just say a long time ago. I have read and reread this little paper back book so many times over all of those years, that I wore the cover off of it and used duct tape to put it back together. I thought it would never be turned into an e-book, but I am so glad that you did it.

This plot is clever and funny and romantic and western and exciting. It starts off with the hero of the book getting his clothes stolen at gunpoint by the heroine of the book. There are some twists and turns along the way, and some interesting people sprinkled throughout. The setting of the book is the Palo Duro Canyon area of the Texas panhandle about the 1880's. There really was an early settlement up in that area known as Saint's Roost, organized and populated by Methodists. Jodi Thomas, being a Texas native, used remarkable dialogue and wove the central characters into this environment extremely well. I promise you will smile and sigh over this one! The sooner you order, the sooner you can enjoy.

Forever in Texas Jodi Thomas 9780515117103 Books Reviews

Love reading Jodi Thomas's books. All the books I have read have been great. I love the historical western and I hope she keeps on writing them because I will keep on buying them.
Though I only gave this book three stars it's was only for the lack of more detail with the characters and lack of excitement. The story though was VERY SWEET over all and kept me reading to the end.(A little FYI Jodi Thomas books just get better over the years ! )
I have to say that I am a big Jodi Thomas fan. She knows how to frame a story, create characters that you love and make you feel like you have been to Texas. Great story. I gave it 4 stars because I LOVE her Harmony series and I think they are a touch better than this one.
I love all her books. She is one of the only authors I've read who writes several different types of stories. She doesn't follow a certain template as many others do. Her historicals vary so much you would never know they are written by the same author. That is a gift that many authors do not have. I read nearly all her books. I love the Harmony series and can't wait for the next one to come out, but her historicals are my favorite.
I like this author and have most of her works.
Ford Colston left his hometown to find a teacher. After failing to do so he is returning home when he's robbed by Hannah, a woman on the run from killers. She takes his clothes and leaves but later comes face to face with Ford again. Trying to start a new life she convinces Ford to let her pretend to be the new school teacher, however when she and Ford are caught kissing they are forced to marry. Part of the agreement between Ford and Hannah is that in one months time she will leave and Ford will tell the town that she died, therefore becoming a widower. The rest of the story covers the killers that are still hot on the trail to find her and Ford's mistrust of Hannah, since items are being stolen from the town stores.
Now normally I'm pretty picky on Jodi Thomas's female characters, since they all tend to seem whinny or afraid of relationships for no reason. In this book I feel that Thomas wrote a fairly strong heroine, who at first was afraid of intimacy, but at there is a reason for that and it is explained in the story. Hannah is able to overcome her fears and wants to be closer to Ford.
Now Ford is a sweetie. He grew up being told he was ugly and had an animal nature. He always wished for a wife but never thought he would find one that would be able to tolate him. He's honest and caring but at times did have trouble trusting Hannah but I guess that can be expected. She did rob him, remember. The part I like the most was when he kissed her hand in town. That was incredible. And when she is pulling her hand away she runs her fingertips across his palm because she couldn't bear to let go. Now that was intense.
If your lucky to find this out of print book buy it, because you won't be disappointed.
This is an older work by Jodi Thomas, but it's clear to see that she always had the gift of telling a story with interesting character development. The heroine witnessed a murder and is running from those who want to kill her for seeing it. She has very little in life to rely on, except for her cat. The hero is a remarkable and honest, hard-working, self-made man, who is a loner. He is not handsome (so refreshing in this genre), and he isn't a ladies man. You will not be disappointed if you read this. My biggest disappointment is when it is finished and I have no more Thomas books to read. I have read them all.
