Misguided Angel A Blue Bloods Novel Melissa de la Cruz Books

I first read Blue Bloods, the first book in the Blue Bloods series, in 2011. Back then, I thought the series' books were okay, but nothing I really enjoyed. Well, fast-forward to 2011 (I believe), when I decided to re-read the series; I got to Masquerade (book three), and then abandoned it. Well, now it's 2016 and I'm back to reading this series; I'm so glad I did!

Misguided Angel is the story of new and old characters.

Schuyler Van Allen and Jack Force are traveling around the world looking for the gateways Schuyler's been left in charge of. Mimi Force has become Regent of the Blue Bloods and is taking on some serious issues that could ruin the Blue Blood way of life; maybe even cause them all to be killed. Deming Chen is an esteemed Venator who's brought in to help Mimi with the huge disaster going on in New York; along the way, she finds star-crossed love.

Schuyler grows so much in this book; she learns to stand on her own feet, stops relying on Jack so much, and begins to find her own way. She's no longer the push over who let Jack treat her like trash. Jack, though, is still the same paper thin character we know and hate. He's without personality and does nothing for the plot (in my opinion). Mimi was extremely nice to read about! I actually hated her in the first three books in this series, but in the latest ones, I've been loving her! & Deming is so amazing!

But the good news doesn't stop there.

This book, finally, has come diversity. Their are African priests, Chinese Venators (Deming), and mentions of skin colors other than "pale". Along with this, this book isn't told in alternating POV chapters. Meaning, the book no longer follows the following pattern: Schuyler, Bliss (who doesn't appear in this book at all), then Mimi. Instead, we get 10 chapters focusing on each character: Schuyler and Jack, Mimi and Oliver, and Deming and Paul. This made the book so much easier to read and it also makes it really obvious that this book has a plot.

Because alternating POV's, in all reality, are meant to stretch out an otherwise weightless book.

Not to say that this book is weightless. This book isn't my second favorite book from the series due to its supposed fluff. No, I love this series because it's come into its own; this series went from focusing on vampires that happened to model and loved spending tons of money, to vampires fighting for their very existence and challenging the status quo. This series is so impressive; so much so, that I'm seriously considering buying a set for my classroom, just in class it checks out with my school.

This book was 100% engaging; I'm currently typing this review way past my bedtime; with complete knowledge that as a teacher I need at last 9-10 hours of sleep a night, but hey, I had to share the good news!

Misguided Angel A Blue Bloods Novel Melissa de la Cruz Books Reviews

When we last left the Blue Bloods, Schuyler had left Oliver, Jack had left Mimi, and Bliss had left altogether (after Lucifer inside her had failed to open the gate to hell under Jack and Mimi's bonding ceremony). Now the Coven is in complete disarray, Mimi plans to kill Jack as soon as she can find him, for refusing their bond, and Jack and Schuyler are trying to find the remaining Gates to Hell in order to secure them against the Silver Bloods.

Schuyler and Jack found themselves being hidden by the European Coven. At first, the safety was welcomed, but when it became clear they were being held against their will, they knew they had to get free. Unfortunately, they aren't just fleeing their captors, they are also fleeing the bounty hunters Mimi sent after Jack. When they are rescued by a strange Somali priest, it becomes clear there is much more going on in the world than they thought. When young girls begin disappearing from villages, there is more to the story than they are ready to hear.

While Mimi was still ready to kill Jack for his betrayal, she hadn't forgotten what was happening at home. In NYC, with Forsythe gone (for harboring Lucifer), the Coven was without a Regis (Coven leader). When they nominate Mimi for the job, she reluctantly accepts the new found power. Soon, though, the situation begins to deteriorate when a young Blue Blood is kidnapped and a video hits the internet. The video not only displays vampires showing off and exposing their powers, it also shows the kidnapped girl being threatened by hellfire- one thing that can kill the very essence of a vampire. Now she must find a way to save the teen (and soon another one) without putting the entire coven in danger.

Deming is a Venator who is known for her skills. She is known for her ability to solve problems for her Chinese Coven, and now she has been brought to New York to help find the missing girls. She infiltrates Duchesne and gets to know the top suspects in the investigation. What she finds out quickly, though, is the person she least expects is responsible for the kidnapping. Deming manages to uncover the same terrifying news Schuyler and Jack have stumbled upon Lucifer has found a way to attack the Blue Bloods without them even knowing it was coming. Now they are all in danger, and what comes next we must wait to see.

As this series grows up, its readers do too. It went from "Gossip Girl" meets to "Twilight" to a truly dark tale. With the entrance of this new threat, the Nephilim, the story has a number of places to go. I am really interested to see where De La Cruz plans to go with this series. She has already developed a rich story line that has plenty of room to grow. The introduction of new characters definitely breathed a bit of life into the story as well. Deming and the story of her life spiced this story up. Now all I can wonder is what the Blue Bloods are going to do next!
This book reminds me just how much I love the series. I was sucked in after the first chapter. The Blue Bloods are not like any other vampires. They were once angels and decided to follow Lucifer. So they fell, and became vampires. The vampires that changed their minds and decided not to follow Lucifer are the Blue Bloods, and the ones still following Lucifer are the Silver Bloods. I loved how this series is set up. I got to see how and why they became vampires.

This book is different from the others. This one is broken down into only three POVs. The first has is Schuyler, the second half in Mimi, and the third half is Deming who is a new character.

I just love Schuyler and Jack. I have enjoyed seeing their relationship grow through each book. Their relationship isn't even aloud since he is suppose to be bonded to someone else. In their story, they set up a plan to escape the Countess. When they finally do, they go on a search with Ghedi to look for the Gate of Promise.

In Mimi's story, she asks Oliver to help her find the missing Vampire Victoria. The kidnapper knew too much about them, and was showing humans the vampires on the internet. Mimi had to cover all that up. When they finally found Victoria, it was too late.

Then came in Deming. Another vampire went missing. His name was Paul, and this time Mimi put Deming on the case. After a lot of attempts, Deming finally figures out who killed both vampires and why.

I loved this book!!!!! I can't wait to read the next one since Jack is heading to where Mimi is supposed to be while Mimi and Oliver is heading to where Schuyler is going. That is going to be a fun ride
