There is a thrill and free-spiritedness that flows through _Wild Horse Heart_: from the first page, I couldn't get enough and devoured the book within two days! When the paperback arrived in the mail, I paused reading the book I was currently working on just to get a taste of _WHH_ but didn't pick that book up again until I finished _WHH_: no joke! The main characters, Ria, Gregory, and Ben, are well-drawn and good company to spend time with in the book. I played with casting them in my mind & I imagine many female readers will cast themselves as Ria, for she is so identifiable and sympathetic, with insecurities that are authentic. You will experience when you read that her link with and channeling of ancestral spirits is exhilarating and empowering when it happens. If you love horses, you'll be intoxicated by this book's reverent respect for wild mustangs and the delicacy and care with which Ariel writes about them. The details of the moviemaking process, the world that Ria gets swept up into, are well-observed. In the core of the story, the conflict of choice Ria faces, as a choice develops through the plot that she did not think she initially had—as one of the *other* characters has his own character development taking place—is excruciating and you will feel every bit of how difficult it is. Since this is also an escapist romance, that choice falls into the 'problems you WANT to have' category. I am so happy to have read this book; trust me that if the title and feel that you get when you think about the book excite you, then this book is everything you want and you should get it! You will have a great time that is a combination of longing and fulfilment, & it will take you up another level.

Katrina Ariel's "Wild Horse Heart" drops you into the life of Ria Walsh, a beautiful, sensitive and talented singer songwriter caught in an abusive marriage. Her world is turned upside down when she's discovered by a Hollywood director and cast in a film with her Hollywood crush. This was a super-fun read - Ria's sensitivity and down-to-earth charms are very relatable - she feels like your best friend and you'll root for her as she gets caught up in love triangle between her sexy costar and her sensitive workaholic director. She brings a variety of exotic settings into play - the luxurious Hollywood mansions where Ria stays, the windswept beaches where she has her first encounter with the charming Gregory Finn, and grandeur of the horse ranch where they shoot their film. It's exciting to see the world through Ria's eyes as she adapts to the non-stop changes flowing through her life. The writing is lovely and there's a wonderful woman-centric vibe as it celebrates Ria's motherly body and her survivor's strength as she triumphs over challenges. You can tell that the author wants to empower women even as she tells a tale of romance. You'll love "Wild Horse Heart" and it will stick with you for long after!

After picking a snippet of Ms. Ariel's WILD HORSE HEART in a twitter contest as a first-place winner--she was so gripping showing an emotional wound in 100 words she beat out over 200 contestants-- she sent me an advance copy of her novel and asked for an honest review.

Her writing is very vivid and professionally done--there was no bogging down in unnecessary backstory, the main characters were well-developed and for the most part likable. I don't want to write a synopsis--you can see those elsewhere in--but the character of Ria was believable and very pleasant. She was a heroine worth rooting for, and I was glad that she found people to help her end an unhappy marriage. Each scene was vivid and came to life expertly--all the sense were evoked and her word pictures were immersive. I only planned to read half in the first setting, but kept turning the pages for another chapter. By the final 25%, I needed to know the ending--definitely a mark of an enjoyable read! I was a little surprised by the ending, which was her plan, and done well. I appreciate that neither of the men in the "love triangle" were caricatures which could have happened without a deft hand to make sure the reader could have been satisfied with either alternative--and none of the three (including Ria) came off as a bad person for being in this situation.

The scenes with the horses were all gorgeous and even as a "non-horse person" (not being around them often) I could get the sense that the plight of the wild mustangs is something very close to Ms. Ariel's heart. I am really excited that she is giving a portion of the proceeds to help with horse rescue! YAY!

I would 100% recommend this book to someone who enjoys well-drawn characters who are likable (can't say that enough!) and artfully built worlds. All of the side characters were also thoughtful and interesting--a definite skill--and the subplots (children, envious co-workers, friendship building) were just the right balance of engaging without over-powering. And the little epilogue bit at the end was heart-warming and tied up all of the loose ends! I would absolutely read more from Ms. Ariel, free advance copy or not! Bravo!

***I edited this review because Ms. Ariel took some very slight critique I gave and added a few lines that made the different between a 9/10 and a 10/10--LOVE THE CHANGES, what a great read!
