Wait for Me Montana Rescue Susan May May Warren 9780800727482 Books

I've waited with bated breath for this book. What felt like an eternity was quickly forgotten within half a day as I sat transfixed, gobbling up page after page. And honestly, I sort of feel a mix of emotions. As I knew would happen when the series you've grown to love, comes to a close.

Pete and Jess have had a tumultuous relationship throughout the series but it always held me captive, wondering how things would work out for them. The excitement and anticipation may have built up an unrealistic conclusion in my mind. Or what I thought would've happened. There were a lot of hurt feelings and a bit of tortuous honesty that had my stomach in knots the entire time. I found myself disappointed by both characters and how they handled themselves while apart and the lack of communication was frustrating but... I'm human so I get it. I don't like that I get it. I wish it didn't have to be that way...but I got it nonetheless.

Pete was a very broken man and as expected, tried to bury his feelings the way most men tend to do. Thankfully he did experience a remarkable turnaround we get to see in flashback form and shared memories. I loved seeing him grow and change, even it it was painful thing to witness.

Jess was a bit of a coward and it didn't fit the character I knew her to be but... once I thought about who she was and watching her try to fit both sides of herself together it made a little more sense. I could've done without Philpe's character to be honest. He didn't really seem to add much to the story. Just someone to add drama and step in conveniently when needed and then skulk off when appropriate.

I feel sort of let down because it took so long to reconcile their past that I almost didn't get enough of them TOGETHER in this book to balm the hurt of them being apart for so much of the series. It was a sweet reunion and of course it all worked out satisfactory but I still feel unsettled about it sadly. But...this is what happens when you read a series all the way through. It might not always go the way you wanted and that's why I usually jump off at some point. With my good memories intact and a full imagination running wild and free. But SMW is just too darn good at sucking you in and holding you there. And I know I'll be spellbound by whatever else she does next!

Wait for Me Montana Rescue Susan May May Warren 9780800727482 Books Reviews

Wait for Me (Montana Rescue #6) by Susan May Warren has been worth waiting for! This novel may be read as a stand-alone but should be read in chronological order to fully understand the complexity of characters as well as the complexity of the plot. Understanding the backstory will make this novel even more suspenseful and intense.

Pete Brooks wants to continue his work in Search and Rescue. More than that, he wants to reunite with EMT Jess Tagg and finally get her to marry him. After all, he has proposed to her three times! However, Pete’s heart is aching as he has discovered Jess has returned to her real life as Selene (her father was convicted of the largest Ponzi scheme and she testified against him and has been living under an assumed name)is engaged to her old boyfriend Felipe. Pete has some sliver of hope as Jess has told him “things aren’t as they seem.”

In this novel, Warren ties up many loose ends from the entire series. During one of the happiest days for a couple of the Peak Team family, a disagreement shakes things up causing Jess, Esme and her friend Ned to leave a Wedding Reception. That one incident triggers a deadly nightmare course of events that will take the reader into an adrenaline overload adventure! The three are run off the road, taken hostage, escape into the Montana mountain wildness, injured with no way to contact the outside world. They make it to a rustic cabin where things progressively get worse! Who can find them? There is one man with the skills. If ... he still cares enough about Jess to search for her.

Pete, Jess, Esme and Ned show what it means to have turned their back on God & live their lives their own way. They put their trust In themselves and not God. Throughout the series, each of the other PEAK Team Members and family have learned to trust God and grow in their faith. They have shown Pete, Jess, Esme and Ned by being living examples before them as well as telling them verbally about their faith. As the four of them face their mortality several times over, their growing faith is put to the test. They learn to rely on the God of GRACE and not themselves and to be thankful fo the ways He has blessed them.

I was provided an ARC of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Susan May Warren writes the most exciting rescues I have ever read and this book starts off with Pete the hero nearly dying in a river to rescue a young family. I don't know if such exciting adventures are worth it when they come with such ridiculous and convoluted plots. Jess doesn't contact her new fiance for two months and wonders why he is upset??? Um just really really too stupid. All that angst and Pete fighting Felipe? The only part of the plot which I liked was Blackburn saving Esme.
In fact in the first book of this series the plot is ridiculous with a Judge who instead of making sure that his sister-in-law got defended properly for killing her abusive husband in self defence made sure she got put away for life so his childless wife could raise her. Then that same judge makes sure that this daughter is kept from the father of her child (Ben King the singer) while his wife once again raises this daughter while the mother goes off to fight in the military. And the Judge is supposed to be a good moral character???? Warren writes the most stupid improbable plotlines for a romance but her ability to write effective suspense and adventure is without question the only reason I read her work. The Ian and Sierra story throughout the series was also really ridiculous as well but the rescues were very well written. Quite possibly she should be writing straight out adventure rescue stories with incidental romances rather than making the romance the major part with so much angst and contrived separations and misunderstandings which really don't make sense.
